A regional 'Newsnight' programme was launched in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland on October 04 1999. The new opt-out began at 11pm. The seven minute Welsh and Northern Irish segments were significantly shorter than the Scottish equivalent, which would typically occupy the last twenty minutes of the 'Newsnight' 10.30pm - 11.20pm time slot. The Scottish programme covered national and international stories, as well as Scottish news events.
The launch of the 'Ten O'Clock News' over on BBC One on October 16 2000 led to the regional 'Newsnight' service being discontinued in Wales and Northern Ireland. 'Newsnight Scotland', however, remained in place, with Gordon Brewer or Anne Mackenzie presenting. |
