Miscellaneous |
The 'Nine O'Clock News' received a facelift in September 1985, with a new logo not unlike that used in the 1970s. The programme had two co-anchors each night. Presenters during this period included: Julia Sommerville; Martyn Lewis; Andrew Harvey; John Humphrys; Nicholas Witchell; Sue Lawley; Michael Buerk. The new look first aired on Monday September 02 1985. |

A new look lunchtime news programme, presented by Martyn Lewis, was launched on Monday October 27 1986, coinciding with the formal introduction of a BBC One daytime schedule. A new time too - 1pm. |

The new daytime line-up introduced on Monday October 27 1986 also saw the start of hourly news updates. Bulletins were broadcast hourly from 9am until midday on BBC One and at 2pm and 3.55pm on BBC Two. |

In 1986, 'Breakfast Time' moved away from the cosy sofa setting, relaunching itself as a hard-news service. |

Hallowe'en 1988 and a brand new look for the 'Nine O'Clock News' and weekend bulletins. The new titles were designed by Lambie-Nairn. We now had one presenter rather than two, which was usually either Michael Buerk or Martyn Lewis. We also had occasional stints from the likes of John Humphrys and Nicholas Witchell. |
