The 'Early Evening News' programme was replaced by a half-hour 6pm news programme which launched on September 03 1984. The new programme had two presenters each weekday. Presenters included: Sue Lawley; Nicholas Witchell; Peter Sissons; Moira Stuart; Jill Dando; Andrew Harvey; John Humphrys; Jenny Bond; Philip Hayton.

The look of the lunctime programme was updated in 1985. Not a major overhaul by any means. However, bigger changes were to come in 1986.
