March 1999 - June 2003 [Part 1]

ITV National News
ITV's news service was relaunched on March 08 1999, following the ITC's decision (November 18 1998) to allow ITV to move its main evening news programme. The 'Early Evening News' was moved from 5.40pm to 6.30pm; the 'News At Ten' was scrapped and replaced by the 'ITV Nightly News', which went out at around 11pm Monday to Friday. The move was aimed at allowing for the uninterrupted transmission of films and dramas in peak time.
The 'ITV Morning News' went out seven days a week between 5.30am and 6am.
Initially, the morning news programme had no opening title sequence; the programme opened with a wide shot of the studio, accompanied by an audio sting. No inset graphics were used during the programme.

The 'ITV Lunchtime News' went out from 12.30pm to 1.10pm Monday to Friday on ITV 1.
When it launched in March 1999, the programme's main anchors were John Suchet and Julia Sommerville. Julia moved to the ITN News Channel in August 2000. Kirsty Young took Julia's place. Kirsty went on maternity leave in late-2000; Katie Derham had been filling in for Kirsty in her absence.
Other presenters who appeared on the lunchtime programme at some point during the March 1999 - January 2001 period included: Nicholas Owen; Mark Austin; Andrea Catherwood; Andrew Harvey; Mary Nightingale; Shiulie Ghosh.
From January 22 2001, the programme was reduced to one presenter: John Suchet was now the main anchor.
